Vapepocolypse (2019)
An open source large format poster (approximately 40" x 30") I researched and designed while at GoInvo. It is an infographic illustrating the dangers that the unregulated selling of vapes pose for the younger population, and the current gaps in education and action against these dangers. It was displayed temporarily at the Boston Children's Hospital. Parts of the poster design was later adapted into a t-shirt (see below).
Client: GoInvo (open-source)
Medium: Digital (Adobe Illustrator)
Date of Completion: Oct 2019
Process Work
1. Finding a story
Provided with the topic of the vaping crisis and the mission of the poster calling for action to protect teens, I gathered research surrounding the populations affected by vaping, its historical trajectory compared to smoking, vaping's harmful effects, and the (lack of) education about vapes for young people.
2. Creating a Rough Draft
Following a general visual description by studio founder Juhan Sonin, I created a rough sketch of the vision including an initial layout of the text and how specific facts were to be visually communicated (i.e. line graphs, bar graphs, symbols etc.). This was reviewed by Juhan and revised iteratively.
3. Rendering to Completion
After finalizing the design, all assets were created in Adobe Illustrator. It was printed out once at size prior to final submission to review for errors and garner feedback from coworkers.
4. Adapting to New Venues
It was internally requested that elements from the poster be converted into a T-Shirt on short notice. In 1 day, I identified the most promising section of the poster to adapt and adjusted the design and file to be appropriate for t-shirt printing.
